What is DVT?

Blood Clot in Leg

DVT or deep vein thrombosis usually takes place when there is a blood clot that forms inside a vein deep within the muscle in a person’s body. This commonly occurs in one’s legs, although there are also patients who develop DVT in their chest, arms, as well as other body parts. And even though DVT can already be considered as a common issue, this can still be quite dangerous. Once blood clotting happens, this can block the circulation or stuck in the blood vessel in the lungs, heart, brain, and other areas. Clotting can also cause severe damages on the organs and worse, this can also lead to death in just a matter of hours. Poor flow of blood is the primary cause of DVT.

Some of the symptoms of DVT include:

  • Tenderness, warmth, swelling in the leg’s soft tissues.
  • Pain in leg that turns worse when standing or walking. It can also be noted when the leg is reddish or swelling.
